"Since graduation in 1985 I have immersed myself in my career as an artist and jeweler, choosing to make my living solely from my work. It has been a challenging yet personally gratifying journey. It is not over. As times change, and life circumstances change I must constantly adapt. It has taken determination , great focus, and a lot of faith.
In 1999 my husband , sculptor Peter Diepenbrock (RISD ID ’83 '84), and I opened a fine art and jewelry gallery/studio , Suydam + Diepenbrock, in Newport, Rhode Island. We represented ourselves as well as other contemporary artists from around the country. 7 years later we moved the gallery to the Wharf area renaming it Didi Suydam Contemporary. I ran it for 5 more years until finally, feeling the need for change, I closed the gallery and began working in my studio full-time. From there I design and produce my jewelry collection as well as continuing the pursuit of my other passion - digital photography and imagery."
Didi began her journey into digital photography in 2004. Fascinated by the effects of movement, color and light she realized she could create evocative imagery that stirred the imagination and challenged one's visual "beliefs". Since then she has shown her work not only in galleries but in numerous competitions winning awards and honors. Recently Didi has begun working with art consultants placing her pieces in small businesses and corporations.
